Chapter 29

After an uneventful dinner: that means Avery free, I relax on the bed to read, but that damn paper One gave me is burning a hole in my pocket. He told me to text him, but I get flustered every time I think about doing it. It’s not like I’m going to text him for phone sex or anything. Geesh, I got to get over myself.

The fierce, outgoing Charlotte that disappeared when my parents died is still inside me. I need to channel the old me. Grabbing my phone, I type in the number he gave me.

Charlotte: Hi it’s Charlotte. Your number is saved on my phone now.

I wait to see if he’s going to text back, and after a few minutes. there is no response. Guess he doesn’t plan on texting. Tossing the phone on my bed, I pick up my book to read. The phone vibrates a few minutes later, and I look at the message.

One: Good

Good? That’s all he has to say? God, he’s so frustrating, but so freaking hot. Every time I’m around him, I don’t know whether to be pissed off or turned on.

I don’t bother to respond, but a nickname for One comes to mind, and I save it with his number. Dark Angel is the perfect name for him. He has the face of an angel, but he’s fierce and protective of his friends. By giving me his number, he’s trying to keep me safe, like my very own guardian angel.

My thoughts are over the place. Between thinking about the guys and wondering if Seven is going to be a problem, I give up trying to read. I need to text Ally and Ashton, since I’ve been avoiding them, and that's not right. I have several missed texts.

Ally wants to know how it’s going, and if the guys are hot. She also said Daniel was doing well, and he’s excited to see me tomorrow. Ashton wants to know if I’m okay, and if I plan to see him Monday when he does his routine visit. At least I have an excuse to see him. My burn should be mostly healed by then, but it wouldn’t hurt for him to look at it.
